In this case I made one to reflect that feed years ago
but since it was spammy I never thought it was worth the effort.

then maybe a reply option but I think groups.io would have

Yes, they would need to communicate their messages. I doubt they want to
do that, as it looks more like a for profit business (no problem with
that, but why would they share?)

I was never a user of Google Groups, and have only learned what people
liked and disliked about it on Usenet. It has never been my intention to
replace GG, or become a clone of GG.

I would like to stick with a web based news client that tries to
maintain Usenet standards :)

I tried to post a reply to one of the latest messages, it seems to have

They are the replacement for Yahoo groups, doin a better job than they did
so far.
There is a pay/donate option, but you get a lot for free.

Since that NG feed seems dead, sorta solves the idea for now by default I
guess.

WHy is the site suddenly being crawled by Googlebot? I can see in the
logs a sudden major start of crawling activity in the past 24 hours.

Did someone submit the site to Google to be crawled? I did not.

I saw articles index weeks ago from your site on Google.
Maybe they are tracking me and presenting me other stuff than you. :-)

Indeed, stuff is missing and not every article seems to be indexed.

Use this term for the search engines:

And then check for example:

I have monitored crawlers for quite a while (and block most) and yes,
Bing is quite active in my logs. I also see a good amount of Yandex, but
always has been very little Google. But suddenly Google is by far the
most active crawler of the site.

It's the sudden and extreme change that caught my attention.

The ones that I block are still logged, just not allowed to crawl the site.

Stuff like Semrushbot and similar.

I have not blocked Google, Bing or Yandex at all, but Google never showed
up much in the logs. Not it's suddenly very active the past couple of days.
